What happens when I delete my account?

Your account goes at once. Messages you sent stay with the people you sent them to, marked as from a deleted account, along with anything they copied or saved.

• Your profile, name, photo and username are deleted.
• The username is released straight away, so someone else can take it.
• Every linked device is signed out, and your recovery key stops working.
• Your message history can't be restored afterwards, by you or anyone else.
• Your anonymous room messages aren't linked to this account, so they stay until the room's history ends.
• Deleting your account ends a paid plan straight away, with no refund for the time left.
• Any export you downloaded stays wherever you saved it.
• Once it's done, a confirmation goes to your Google email address.

Payment records (reference, amount and date) and reports you sent are kept for a set time after deletion, and the privacy page says how long. Everything else linked to your account is deleted straight away, apart from backups, which the privacy page covers.

How do I delete my account?

Sign in to AChat, open Account, go to the Data tab and choose Delete account.

1. Sign in with Google.
2. Open Account, then the Data tab.
3. If you own a group or community, make someone else its owner.
4. Want a copy? Choose Export data first, and keep the file somewhere private.
5. Choose Delete account, read what happens, then type your username to confirm.

Google may ask you to sign in again before the deletion goes through.

Can't sign in?

Use the contact page. It opens with Deleting your account as the topic.

Send it from the Google email address your account uses. The team can act only on a request from that address.

Not sure yet?

Leaving is your call. If only one thing bothers you, there may be a smaller step.

Signing out removes your chats from one device and leaves your account as it is. To read them there again, you'll need your recovery key or another linked device.

In Preferences you can hide when you're online and turn off read receipts.
